Sandy Cove is on the Eastport Peninsula about 3 km from the town of Eastport. From the Trans Canada, follow the signs for Eastport. The road runs through Terra Nova National Park. When you get to Eastport, follow the signs for Sandy Cove. (right on Church St.)

You'll be entering town on Sandy Cove Road. Turn left on Barbour Ave. and right on Down Below Road. That ends at a parking area at the beach. You can walk along the beautiful sandy beach below a large sand cliff. The features were formed by glaciers 12,000 years ago. At the parking area, you'll also see signs for the Sandy Cove Look-out Hiking Trail.

The trail climbs the mountain to a lookout platform 500 feet above the bay. The trail is fairly difficult and will probably take you longer than the 1/2 hour shown on the sign. The trail is all tree roots and parts of it can have water running down it. When you get towards the top, it's easier with a boardwalk section.

There are two lookout areas. The first one you come to has amazing views of Terra Nova National Park. Make sure you continue to the 2nd, which is a wooden platform with a Canadian flag. From that platform you have a view of the town and the sandy cliffs.
