Quirpon (pronouced Kar-Poon) is on the Northern Peninsula just off Route 436. Take Route 436 north towards L'Anse aux Meadows and turn right on Quirpon Road. The town is just a short drive down that road.

From Quirpon you can see Quirpon Island. The large island is no longer settled and extends north into the Strait of Belle Isle. The island is home to the Cape Bauld lighthouse and an inn that you can book into during the summer months. You get to Quirpon Island via a zodiac from Quirpon.

While we were in Quirpon, we stopped in to see Bill Bartlett who builds model lighthouses. Bill helped build the current lighthouse on Quirpon Island. He also worked on the Hibernia platform and had many interesting stories.

Harbour, Quirpon, Newfoundland

We were in Quirpon in mid-June and pack ice was still in the harbour (later than normal). Icebergs were also abundant. There are places you can park with great views. We were not able to explore area trails, because they were still snowed in.

Just drive around town with your camera!
