Burnside is on the Eastport Peninsula about 8 km north of Eastport. From the Trans Canada, follow the signs for Eastport. The road runs through Terra Nova National Park. When you get to Eastport, follow the signs for the Saint Brendan's Ferry.

As you drive into Burnside you'll see the Burnside Archaeology Museum on your left. Native people inhabited the Burnside area for at least 5,000 years.

Part of Burnside is on Squid Island. A one-lane bridge crosses a tickle joining the island to the rest of town. St. Alban's Church is a prominent landmark in the town.

Burnside is where you catch the ferry to Cottel Island and St. Brendan's. The ferry makes as many as three crossings everyday and gives you a chance to explore St. Brendan's.
