To reach The Roost in York Harbour you will take Route 450 west from Corner Brook along the south shore of the Humber Arm. It is right on the side of the road, perched high above the shore line with a gorgeous view of the Bay of Islands.
We were greeted by two of the owners, Roy and Blake, who had framed architectural drawings of the expansion they will be undertaking in the future on display. While it is a very impressive gift store already, they will be adding a cafe in the future. They have a great collection of Newfoundland craftwork by local artists and themselves. I had just been introduced to rug hooking and when I expressed my interest in some of their pieces I was given an impromptu lesson on the spot, answering many questions that I had about how it was done and materials to use. I had a great time, Bob had to drag me out of there!
The cafe will be very welcome in the area, since there are very few food options except during July and August.
