Salmon Point Lookout is part way along a trail in Rocky Harbour. Take Main Street along the south side of the harbour towards the fish plant and cemetery. Take the side street and drive up the hill. You'll come to a spot where it's fairly obvious that you don't want to drive any further. There is a small parking area on your right.
Hike up the hill to a lookout platform that gives you great views on Bonne Bay. Most of the trail is a quad track and fairly easy to walk.

When you get on top of the hill you'll have great views of Lobster Cove Head and Rocky Harbour. You are on top of a peninsula that separates Rocky Harbour from Bonne Bay. You can also see Gros Morne Mountain.
From the lookout you can continue up the hill on a short return loop with views of Bonne Bay. Part of the trail returns through an area of surprisingly protected and lush vegetation and trees.
Hikes of Western Newfoundland by Katie Broadhurst and Alexandra Fortin is an excellent guide if you like to do trails. The book covers Western and Central Newfoundland as far east as Twillingate. They don't cover every trail, that's almost impossible. You'll find information on a good range of trails that you should consider.
You start with the area map where they show the trails that are covered by the book. The pages about each trail include GPS co-ordinates of the trailhead and a good map of the trail. They also tell you the level of difficulty and distances.
We bought a copy ahead of our June 2015 trip to scout out the trails we wanted to do ahead of time. The book is available on Amazon and you can purchase it through this link.
