While you are in Little Port there are trails that you can take that will give you a higher view of this pretty port. If you drive between the buildings on the other side of the road you will enter a large parking area, that serves 2 trail heads. It is easily located because of the set of stairs built to take you up to the first bluff.

The Cedar Cove Walking Trail itself is only about 2 km and takes you south through the forest to reach Cedar Cove. The second trail is the Little Port Head Lighthouse Trail. It takes you across the top of the bluff and over to the far side which drops into a meadow. One edge of the meadow is Little Port Beach. You can cross the meadow and continue on the trail, which will take you to the top of the mountain that overlooks Little Port.

Due to time constraints we were not able to take full advantage of these trails. Still we were happy with the views we had of Little Port and out towards Lark Harbour from the bluff.

This small area around Lark Harbour is full of trails literally within minutes of each other. Visit yorkharbourlarkharbour.com to get a good handle on your options.

Newfoundland Travel Tip:

Hiking trails of all kinds abound in Newfoundland. Some are long or hard enough to show up on websites. Amazingly there are many more local trails that you will find out about accidentally or if you stay in a community for a few days. Many of these trails are very well maintained and provide ample exercise, and scenery.

Hikes of Western Newfoundland:

Hikes of Western Newfoundland by Katie Broadhurst and Alexandra Fortin is an excellent guide if you like to do trails. The book covers Western and Central Newfoundland as far east as Twillingate. They don't cover every trail, that's almost impossible. You'll find information on a good range of trails that you should consider.

You start with the area map where they show the trails that are covered by the book. The pages about each trail include GPS co-ordinates of the trailhead and a good map of the trail. They also tell you the level of difficulty and distances.

We bought a copy ahead of our June 2015 trip to scout out the trails we wanted to do ahead of time. The book is available on Amazon and you can purchase it through this link.

Hikes of Western Newfoundland is also available on Amazon.com and American customers can purchase by clicking here.
